About

Hello ladies and lads,

My name is Linsey. I am the creator of the ARE Study Guide, and the companion podcast, the ARE Study Guide Podcast. I am an architect based in San Francisco, California.

My goal with creating this Podcast and Study Guide series is to help make it easier for people to pass their Architect Registration Exams. I am incredibly passionate about architecture, and for years I eagerly waited to qualify to take my exams. When the State of California finally gave me the green light, I was so excited; but then I instantly felt dismayed to find there wasn’t really a clear path for how to study. I bought a few of the popular study guides, only to find the information wasn’t written for the ARE 5.0. Worse yet, I found conflicting information between the guides I read.

As a young architect, I know I have a lot to learn. When I approached these exams my goal wasn’t to just pass, I wanted to consume as much knowledge as I could, so that I could become the best architect I could become. I imagine that you also want to become the greatest architect you can be. After all, this process isn’t about just passing a series of tests so that you can call yourself an, “architect.” The purpose of taking these tests is to equip yourself with knowledge that will empower you to be great at what you do.

These study guides are my actual notes (organized like a book and written in paragraph format with a few graphics as needed). I released each study guide after I studied from the material in the guide and passed the test. If you’re curious which books and resources I used, check out the Bibliography page.

The Study Guides are available for purchase on this website. In addition, I created a brief series of podcast episodes for each test (give or take 10 per test). You can find the podcasts available for free on this website, or on whichever platform you get your podcasts.

I am excited for you. This is a really amazing journey to be on. I hope the content I’ve created can help you have an easier, less stressful test-taking experience. Life moves fast, take your time and enjoy the process. If you need anything at all, feel free to send me a message.

Wishing you all my best,
